About Pacific Quest

Pacific Quest offers an innovative approach to residential behavioral healthcare, specializing in mental health care for young adults (ages 18-24) on Hawaii island. The program is rooted in a philosophy of cultivating change and promoting sustainable growth in its participants. Established in 2004, Pacific Quest has evolved from a wilderness therapy model to a comprehensive behavioral health program that integrates nature’s healing capabilities with the clinical resources and safety of a residential program.

The program’s strengths-based approach is aimed at helping participants get to the roots of their challenges, teaching them sustainable skills, and realizing their resilience and ability. Pacific Quest’s team consists of clinicians, physicians, therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, and nutritionists who work collaboratively to create individualized treatment plans. Each family and student is assigned a primary therapist who guides the process from beginning to end, ensuring a seamless and impactful experience.

Pacific Quest’s approach disrupts cycles of internalized stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and other mental health challenges. By equipping students with tools they need for healthier lives, the program fosters change and promotes sustainable growth. The program emphasizes diversity and inclusion, recognizing the importance of mental, emotional, and physical health in realizing an individual’s purpose and healing both themselves and their community.

The integrated health and medical wellness program at Pacific Quest addresses the clinical and medical complexity of each individual. This program focuses on five pillars of wellness: nutrition, the mind-body connection, sleep, breathing, and movement. For example, they use a collaborative team assessment approach for medication review, and the mind-body connection is addressed through somatic-based interventions. The program also emphasizes the importance of nutrition, believing that food is medicine, and teaches students to cook and prepare food using fresh, natural ingredients. Sleep hygiene, relaxation tools, and techniques for proper sleep cycles are taught to help reset natural circadian rhythms. Breathing exercises are used as valuable tools for regulating the central nervous system and encouraging relaxation. Lastly, the program includes structured exercise and activities like paddle boarding, hiking, swimming, and exploring local natural sites to improve physical and mental health.

Pacific Quest is licensed by the Hawaii State Department of Health as a Therapeutic Living Program and accredited as a Residential Treatment by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). It is also accredited by Cognia for its learning curriculum.
