HMI’s program, “Adventure, Conservation & Leadership in Wild Places,” is a comprehensive semester-long journey that combines the thrill of outdoor exploration with the critical study of environmental issues and leadership training. Participants embark on adventures that include trekking through the Canyonlands of Utah, scaling the peaks of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and navigating the deserts of Arizona, with options to extend their exploration to the diverse landscapes of Chile.

The program is structured around three core tracks: Traverse, Rock, and Trek, each offering a unique set of challenges and learning outcomes. The Rock and Trek tracks offer participants the opportunity to learn Spanish as part of their curriculum, enhancing their cultural immersion and communication skills. Moreover, gappers can earn up to 6 college credits, acknowledging the educational value of their experiences in the wilderness.
